When we wrote this one, we wanted it to feel like sunshine on your skin and dirt under your boots, a reminder of where we come from and why we love it so much. This song is our roots, our story, and our way of saying there’s nothing sweeter than the South.

Butter & Grit is a Nashville-based country soul duo on a mission to revive the heart of country music—with a soulful twist. Blending Luke-Michael’s smooth, R&B-inflected vocals (“butter”) and Laurel Taylor’s raw, powerhouse grit (“grit”), the duo brings together two distinct voices to create a sound that’s both timeless and fresh.
Longtime friends and collaborators, Luke-Michael and Laurel Taylor have sung together on stages and in studios for years, but it was during a prison ministry tour—performing for inmates across the country—that something deeper took root. The response to their harmonies was overwhelming, with audience after audience urging them to make it official. In that sacred space, surrounded by stories of struggle and redemption, Butter & Grit was born.
Their debut single “Off My Sleeve” (Fall 2024) set the tone for a project rooted in honest songwriting, rich harmonies, and emotional resonance. Whether singing in prisons, recovery centers, or on stages nationwide, Butter & Grit is bringing back the kind of country music that heals, moves, and reminds us we’re not alone.
